Why the Silence from E.T.?

Humorous, but as in all good humor, a kernel of truth? I was thinking on this very thought for awhile - would advanced, especially postbiologic, beings either destroy themselves or get so wrapped up in virtual reality technology that they turn inwards and not actively care about technologically primitive aliens (not care enough to contact them)?

Maybe many aliens do not use standardized language conventions but instead communicate complex information by listening to feedback from those they discuss with and correct misunderstandings as the discussion goes on. They would not try to send one-way messages.

Some alien races may view language as a mere translation of the nonlingual thoughts behind. They would probably correct misunderstandings "on the spot" and may not have any concept of calling a lingual form "wrong" if they and those who they talk to understands it. Such aliens would hardly use one-way communication. Imagine a world with advanced phones and phone gears but no tv, radio or writing!
